So Many Gurus

I began trading shares and CFDs some years ago with some success for a while. I invested a lot of money, built up quite a handy portfolio and then in the staged and choreographed Global Financial Crisis, I woke up in the morning to find most of my retirement nest egg wiped out.

I was devastated and almost afraid to reveal the total of my losses to my husband who has worked extremely hard in a physical sense to build a property asset .

VULTURES and VAMPIRES

In the weeks and months following, my inbox has been flooded with so called gurus trying to tell me I can make millions trading CFD's or Forex. They all have the secret formula and its only available for the next 24 hours, so sign up now and secure your financial future. The problem is they all want to take a piece of what little I have left to secure their own futures.

If you click on one of their ads it will promise you that you will make a fortune if you follow their system, and today for you it is only $49, then you go to leave the web page and a message comes up saying,"don't leave, we have an extra special offer for you, if you sign up now, we will give it to you for just $27!". You think that is not too much to lose, I can afford that, so you sign up, download the program and try to use it. It all sounds simple but it is not so simple and rarely does it work.

You soon realise your bank account is being debited a certain amount every month and there is no money to be made with these so called proven systems. Adding insult to injury you find all of a sudden you are being bombarded with emails from other so called experts trying to sell you their method. This is why I have headed this section Vultures and Vampires. They come in like vultures to take whats left or like vampires to draw every last drop of life from your bank account.

EXTERMINATORS

I feel somebody needs to investigate all these claims and prosecute the frauds among them.

As I was getting such emails I would send them to my junk folder and then do a bulk delete. But there seemed to be an ever increasing number of them so that my inbox was being filled with unwanted emails I had to manage daily by directing new ones to the junk file . I think I would be quite rich if I just received $1 for each email of a fraudulent kind I have received. Now I have installed a Spam Filter so it is much easier

The vultures out there need to be prosecuted and exterminated so they can no longer prey on peoples desire to improve their financial status.

They have no concern for helping you make a dollar, their only goal is to fill their own wallets with the money they con from all the hopefuls who innocently buy their programs, believing all the crap and falling for their very impressive graphs and bank statements detailing how many dollars their particular system has earned them.

To Be Forewarned is to Be Forearmed.

We need to be armed with an education in dealing with these monsters. They have shown extreme disrespect by intruding in our email boxes without our permission so I feel we can justifiably show the same disrespect by denying them access. Then they will have to get a real job.

Armoury:

  • Diligence, be careful as to what you respond to.
  • Tools. Find a good spam filter that works with your system, I use spam fighter
  • Keep updated : updating your spam filter is important and your virus program needs to be up to date too.
  • Enjoy the Internet and keep clear of predators

The Age Money Section today had some sound advice which relates to any purchase, including online programmes which promise to make you rich, so I am including it here:

  • Can I afford the purchase?

  • Does the product suit my needs?

  • Have I shopped around for the best price and service?

  • What available remedies are there if something goes wrong?

  • Is there a valid guarantee? What is the store's refund policy?

  • What is the total price, including all charges, credit card fees, and GST?

  • Have I researched the product?

  • Should I wait a little until I have cooled off?

  • Is this impulse buying?

  • Do I feel pressured by the sales person?

  • Should I check with anyone else (e.g. my spouse)?
