Flinders Island
63Flinders Island ( a picture tells a thousand words)

We loved the walks along unspoilt and beautiful beaches, climbing over the incredible rock formations and the fishing. It was a wonderful place to visit and we will certainly be back.
It was one of those impulsive moments when we decided to get away for a couple of days. We had heard about Flinders Island but had not been there. We chartered a flight from Tooradin in a small plane (4 seater) . The pilot flew us over our own property near Wilsons Promontory before heading out over Bass Strait. When we Arrived at Lady Baron Airstrip a car was left waiting for us with the keys in the ignition and no one around. This was our introduction to the trust and casualness of the island. We found our way to our accommodation which was in a house owned by a very lovely older couple. The house was comfortable and cosy and was stocked with all kinds of goodies for us to eat. They even provided fishing gear for us knowing that visitors from the mainland cannot bring a great deal with them in a small plane.
We took with us a young man who wanted to get up some diving hours. A local man took him out on his boat as a real act of generosity and he had an absolutely wonderful time exploring underwater caves while my husband and I relaxed on his boat waiting for them to return.
Another outing was going out on a fishing charter boat with an oldtimer from the Island. He went out of his way to ensure we had a good experience of fishing. After 6 hours out on his boat he cleaned and filletted our catch so we could freeze it and pack it to bring home.
The rest of the time we had, we spent exploring the many very beautiful beaches and walks.
We met many of the locals and found them all to be more than welcoming and friendly. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time, 3 days on Flinders Island were over far too soon.

Thanks for publishing this article. With you, I'm able to visit parts of Australia that I missed on the three weeks I spent there. Well done!
These photos are beautiful! I haven't been but this looks like a place I would love to visit. Well done!
Great photos! It really looks and sounds like an idyllic spot, esp. for fishing enthusiasts. Maybe even geology enthusiasts, by the looks of those rocks. Thanks for sharing!
